So salmon fishing. Yeah people around here are seriously into it. Including my Aunt and Uncle's neighbors. They are quite literally fishermen. It's how they make their living. They came by and gave us some cooked salmon one day and Nathan made me try it.
Gage and Landon were so right. It tastes freaking amazing. Or at least the way she cooked it it did.
Anyway the salmon are just now getting here. They do the whole, they're born here they swim out to sea for a few years tehn die here. And it's time to die.
Well last night the neighbors left for a morning fishing trip right? Right. So they're off all day fishing. I'm babysitting 12 for Uncle and Aunt. Uncle and Nathan went camping last night, god knows where, and Amy is going to some bay an hour away w/ Connor Aunt is doing housework and doesn't really wanna be bothered so yeah, I'm stuck with 12.
Which is fine, I get along with 12. So we're sitting there. I'm so happy because 12 hasn't ever seen the Pirate's of the Caribbean movies and is utterly fascinated. I'm watching for all her reactions to certain parts, explaining some things to her, basically thoroughly enjoying myself, when a knock comes at the door.
I hesitate and 12 tells me to get it. So I do. There is neighbor holding these two gigantic fish wrapped up in cling wrap or something.
"Is Kevin there?" He asks looking for my uncle.
Aunt is somewhere in the back but I've met these neighbors and their little boy so I'm confident that I can talk to them without Aunt getting upset.
"No he's out camping." I say.
"Oh well here's two king salmon for him, make sure you put it in the refrigerator." He holds out the slamon.
I stare at him for a moment like he's crazy. Why the heck would I want to touch this fish. Even if a layer of cling-wrap is seperating it from my hands. Those of you who know me well enough know I don't touch fish absolutely not. That's why most of you don't take me fishing anymore. Heck, I can't even touch dolphins at Sea World.
So there I am looking at me neighbor like he's crazy and trying to work up the nerve to grab the fish and contemplating my other options. I mean I can easily yell to 12 to come get the fish but she would say no or I could tell him I am not touching the fish but that'd be rude. After about two seconds I meet neighbors eyes again. He must've seen the horror there because he grinned and then kinda chuckled.
"Hold on." He turned around and went to the back of his truck and pulled out a trashbag. Carefully, he deposited the salmon in the bag ties then brings it back to me.
I take it finally but I can still imagine the fish in there. I mean for goodness sakes they still had freaking eyeballs and stuff. I'm holding it as far away from my body as possible but the fish are huge and very heavy so I end up holding it with both hands. Which by the way makes me feel weak because he was holding them both with one hand.
"The refrigerator?" I repeat, just to make sure.
He nods and says yes. I say thank you, he nods and goes back to his house.
I shut the door and immediately yell for Aunt. Who comes out of the back room. Now she likes fish just as much as I do so she delicately manages to evade me handing her the bag.
12 clears out an area in the fridge for the gigantic salmon all the while staring at me and the bag as if she expects me to throw them on her. I debated throwing them on her.
Then Aunt puts the fish in there and tells me and 12 that Uncle isn't allowed to ask for fish anymore.
We all go back to our spots before the fish trauma and sit for a minute. 12 asks me another question about Pirates and everything goes back to normal. I just can't wait for Uncle to get home.
